Google's doodle highlights Malayan tiger on 61st National Day

In conjunction with Malaysia's 61st National Day celebrations on Friday (Aug 31), Google is featuring the Malayan tiger in its doodle.

Highlighting the Malayan tiger, Google said it represented strength and courage.

In Malay folklore, said Google, some stories cast them as humans morphed into animal form: for example, the harimau jadian, was a fabled guardian of palm plantations.

Google added that this year’s National Day “will be particularly exciting” because, for the first time in Malaysian history, citizens elected a new government.

A Google “doodle” is what Google calls its decorative logo.

Doodles have become an iconic part of Google, celebrating and marking past and present events all over the world, including anniversaries and holidays.
